What is a fractional laser?
Fractional laser is a modern skin rejuvenation technique that, unlike surgical procedures, does not require a lengthy recovery period. This technology is frequently used in aesthetic medicine and is recommended for men and women over 30 years old to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks and discolorations, as well as post-traumatic acne scars.
What is fractional laser treatment?
- Unlike ablative laser treatment, results are obtained by creating plasma following the inflammatory process, which sets in motion the skin’s regeneration process.
- The laser exfoliates the skin, reduces unwanted pigmentation, stimulates collagen production and refines skin texture and tone. It can also treat acne scars and diminish fine lines and wrinkles.
- Fractional laser treatment involves using a laser to create multiple micro-wells in the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing process and promoting the growth of new skin cells.
- There are two types of fractional lasers: ablative and non-ablative (such as the Hollywood Spectra laser). Ablative lasers destroy part of the epidermis, while non-ablative lasers cause skin tension in the horizontal plane. Fractionated non-ablative lasers are generally preferred for sensitive, irritation-prone skin because of their short convalescence time compared to ablative technologies such as CO2 lasers.
Note: It is important to note, however, that an initial consultation is required to determine individual eligibility for this treatment.
Duration of treatment:
For visible, long-lasting results, we recommend a series of fractional laser treatments.
Generally, 3-4 sessions of Hollywood Spectra Fractional Laser treatment are recommended. Sessions are spaced 2-4 weeks apart for optimum results.
During the first treatment session, all acne lesions will be reduced in volume.
New acne outbreaks are significantly reduced thereafter. You’ll notice an improvement after the first treatment. However, more dramatic results will be seen after 3 to 4 treatments.
To maintain results, we recommend using sun protection during the day and high-quality medical skincare products at night.
Treatment steps
Treatment in 3 simple steps:
1. Information session:
At your first appointment, we’ll assess your skin type and conditions to establish a treatment protocol tailored to your needs and results. There are several protocols for different conditions. This consultation is free of charge.
- Anti-aging protocol
- Active Acne Protocol
- Scar protocol
- Pigmentation/vascular spots protocol
2. Treatment session:
Each session lasts between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated and the desired depth of treatment, determined by the professional considering the treatment objectives and the patient’s expectations. The procedure is as follows:
- Application of a topical photoactivating lotion. To reduce discomfort, an anesthetic cream is applied to the skin around 60 minutes before the procedure. On the contrary, this new technology is almost painless compared to ablative lasers such as CO2.
- Wear eye protection
- Using Laser Spectra, the area is gently heated to stimulate the skin cells.
- The laser creates a peeling effect by removing the photoactivating carbon lotion. This action deeply cleanses the skin surface and clears clogged pores, reducing sebum production and the appearance of pores.
You can also combine your treatment with products from the Environ range
Energizing mask:
A gentle micro-exfoliating mask formulated to help soften the appearance of fine lines and energize skin for a radiant, even complexion.
Alpha toner:
This contains a high concentration of alpha-hydroxy acid (glycolic acid) to effectively but gently exfoliate and help reveal radiant skin.
3. Post-treatment care:
Here are a few tips to follow after your treatment:
- Cleanse the skin with micellar water and non-woven compresses.
- After treatment, apply a healing cream for 4 weeks
- Avoid using bleaching agents or topical retinoids during and after treatment
- Avoid contact sports
- Avoid rubbing the treated area
- Avoid saunas, swimming pools, Jacuzzis and steam baths for one week after treatment.
- Apply sun protection (SPF 50, UVA/B) for 6 weeks
- If the inflammatory reaction is severe and/or lasts longer than 48 hours on high phototypes, apply a topical dermocorticoid for 5 days.
The process is simple, non-invasive, and can usually be completed in an hour (I aim to do it in 45 minutes eventually). Prepare yourself for a comfortable, professional experience with visible results.

Fractional Laser Treatment FAQs
What are the side effects of fractional laser treatment?
The safety of fractional laser treatment has been proven through research and clinical studies, and the risk of significant complications is minimal. Possible side effects may include redness, swelling, and a slight burning or itching sensation in the treated areas, which usually disappear after a few hours to several days.
What does my face look like after treatment?
After Hollywood Spectra fractional laser treatment, your face may show the following characteristics:
- Redness: A temporary skin reddening may occur after treatment, but this tends to fade in the days following the session.
- Swelling: Slight swelling may also occur, but this should diminish rapidly after treatment.
- Return to social activities: Most people can resume their normal social activities soon after treatment, as the after-effects are generally straightforward, and the skin recovers quickly.
It is important to note that individual reactions to this treatment may vary.
What happens if I have or have had oral herpes/cold sores?
To avoid complications, you may be asked to take an antiviral medication to prevent a herpes outbreak. Be sure to mention your condition at your initial consultation.
Is fractional laser treatment only for the face?
Fractional laser treatment is particularly suitable for the face and all other body areas needing improvement. It’s important to note that the Spectra Hollywood fractional laser can also be used to treat different parts of the body, such as elbows, wrists and cysts. The benefits of this treatment include fresh, luminous, blemish-free skin, and are suitable for all skin types and prototypes.
